While Daddy's away...

Brett headed off to the NC mountains last weekend for our church's annual Men's Retreat. Between mountain biking and poker, they did manage to get some good bonding time in (or so I'm told). Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Makena and Reese and I over-scheduled ourselves into exhaustion with things like...
Strawberry eating....er...picking (holy moly did those strawberries make some good ice cream later)
We spent a good chunk of time swimming
They even decided the dogs must be onto something when it comes to beating the heat- so they laid in the monkey grass- hey- whatever keeps them entertained.
And here we are, not even at age 4 and 3 yet, staring one of women's lifelong dilemmas straight in the behind. When the size of your top half doesn't match the size of your bottom half, sometimes you wind up with droopy drawers.

Lots of Greats

We had a slew of Greats and Great-Greats in town last week. My Great Aunt Joyce, Great Uncle Les, Great Uncle Dean and Great Aunt Linda drove from Texas and Oklahoma to visit my grandparents (rumor has it there were casino stops along the way, but that's a story for another time). They stayed in some rather swanky digs at Grandmother & Honey's complex and we had a big dinner for everyone at our house on Friday. From Makena and Reese's perspective, that translates to four Great-Greats, two Greats and two Grands.
(why is a grandparent grand, but his sibling is great? then when he becomes a great grandparent, his sibling has one-upped him and is already a great-great aunt/uncle. that doesn't seem fair. or logical. but, as usual, nobody asked me)
Here are a few pictures from what was a very special dinner.
Dean, Honey and Joyce- three of eight siblingsThe three siblings, their spouses and my Mom
My Mom, her aunt, father and uncle
Mom, Aunt Joyce and Uncle Les (an Aggie. We Longhorns are open-minded, however, and make it a point to welcome College Station graduates into our homes. but we generally don't tell the neighbors.)

Grandmother and Honey (who should officially be given the title of Great Great Grandparents, if you ask us)

Happy Easter!

We celebrated Easter with my parents and grandparents this year. Holiday dinners continue to evolve as the girls get older- there's never a dull moment!

Busy Spring Break

We had a busy week earlier this month...with no school we were looking for creative outlets for our boundless energy. Here are a few of our attempts at finding said outlets.
Pairs Rings (coming soon to an Olympics near you)
Llama feeding (this was preferable to the "bear"- aka water buffalo- for Reese)Ball pitsNot really sure what this isHula-hooping
Easter Egg Dyeing
flower transportation
Even Maggie was worn out by the end of the week
Preschool is a wonderful thing!

Brett's 40th

We celebrated Brett's 40th this weekend with a lot of friends and a lot of food and fun!
Happy 40th, Brett!

This was the cake our friend Tricia made in honor of Brett's homebrewing hobby.
And this was the scene at our recycling bins the next morning

Gypsies

I'm sure that our neighbors have often gazed into our backyard and wondered exactly what our design motif was. I'll let the secret out. It's called "collect stupid amounts of stuff until it you have so much that it takes half an hour to put it away...then get so preturbed at your collection that you go buy an expensive storage container...lather, rinse, repeat". Our weather is finally beginning to turn (for good) here so we've been outside constantly. As a result, we have wagons, water tables, chairs, balls, lacrosse sticks, gymnastics ribbons, chalk and Owl strewn across the yard. We probably look like gypsies.
Apparently, one afternoon, Makena had the same thought.
Here are some other random shots from the past couple of weeks
